Ampney young guns on the up

Manager Pete Levitt said he was very pleased with the start his side had made and added: "I didn't expect to set anything on fire in our first season but we are doing much better than I thought.

"We have got quite a young side together with a couple of experienced players in Neil Quinn and Dave Levitt and hopefully we can keep it going, we will just have to see how things pan out."

Ampney looked the better side in the first half and took the lead with a well worked goal from Arthur Levitt. Just before the break Terry Moore added a second to give his side a two-goal cushion at the break.

The College had a better second half but failed to take their chances and in the closing stages Moore took advantage of a mistake by the visitors defence to add a third.

Aldbourne also did well to win 2-0 at Bromham after a closely contested first 45 minutes in which both sides had chances to break the deadlock.

After the break manager Tony Dyer brought on Carl Taylor and changed the formation and the move paid dividends when a mistake in midfield by the home side cost them dear as Gavin Cook capitalised.

Five minutes later Jimmy Wright added a second to make sure of victory.

Aldbourne boss Tony Dyer said he was very pleased with the way his side had played in their last couple of games and added: "Our back four have been playing really well and it was nice to keep another clean sheet.

"Hopefully we can build on our last couple of good results, we are only three points behind the leaders and that has got to be good."

Malmesbury Vics gained their first victory of the season, defeating Shrewton 3-1. Two goals from Ed Wilkins and one from Peter O'Niell earned them another three.

Premier leaders Corsham were held to a 2-2 draw by Calne who fought back after going a goal down in the first two minutes following a strike by Corsham's Adam Taylor.

Darren Legg equalised with a good header just before the break and right on half-time added a second after the visitors keeper had dropped the ball at his feet.

The leaders began to have the edge after the break as they looked for an equaliser and they were rewarded on 75 minutes with a goal from James Weston.

Both sides had chances in the last quarter but at the whistle honours remained even.

Westside also gained three more useful Premier Division points, beating visitors Purton Reserves 2-0 thanks to two first half goals from Geoff Swatton, one from the spot.

Marlborough Town and Melksham shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Wayne Bailey for the visitors and Brad Mildon for Marlborough.

In Junior One, Blyskawica picked up their first points of the season beating visitors Lower Stratton 6-0 Tom Kopinski on target with four goals and Miec Wojewodka adding two more.

At the other end of the table leaders Wroughton continued to add to their goals for tally by beating Minety 9-3 on their own ground, making it 31 goals from the last three games. Barry Dickens (4), Glenn Armstrong (3), Michael Wilson and Mark Bone on target with Willie Wood netting a hat-trick for Minety.

Second-in-the-table Barron Heating also chalked up maximum points beating Marlborough Town Reserves 3-1.

AFC Abbey Rodbourne came out best in a seven-goal thriller with Westlecott, 4-3. Paul Parsons (2), Brian Coyne and a James Garbutt penalty for Abbey and Paul Morrell (2) and Rich Horner for the visitors.

Stratton Rovers moved into third spot after beating Swindon Asians 5-1 Lou Cunningham (2), Ashley Channing, Scott Ward and Colin Yates with Ajay Sahota converting a penalty for the Asians.

AFC Rodbourne and Stratton Rovers head the table in Junior Two. Rodbourne scored seven without reply against Blueprint with hat-trick from Luca Wrona, two from Nolan Paul and one each from Brian Murdock and Michael Colbourne.

Stratton Rovers Reserves were held to a 1-1 draw by Wroughton Res, Milos Cizmar on target for Rovers.

Chiseldon Castrol beat CHQ 2-1 thanks to Dave Gee and an own goal.

Two goals from James Cornfield and one from Matt Fryer and Steve Thomas enabled Aldbourne Res to beat Biddestone 4-1 in the first round of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup.
