Did you see bogus police steal cash?

SWINDON Police are renewing an appeal for witnesses following a theft in the town centre on Monday, August 29 at 3am.

A 21-year-old man was standing alone on the paved area in Fleet Square when two men approached him, posing as police officers.

It is alleged that one of the men made a reference to the victim urinating in a public place being an offence and told him to pay a £50 fine.

The two men then rifled through his pockets and made off with a mobile telephone, £4 cash and a bank debit card.

The first suspect is described as black, about 28 to 32 years of age, about 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build and close shaven hair.

He wore a light coloured cotton jacket, dark trousers and he had a London accent.

The second man is white, similar in age and height, with a tanned complexion, slim build with short dark hair, wearing a denim jacket and a white V neck tee-shirt.

A police spokesman said: "All police officers, whether in plain clothes or uniform, will always identify themselves, using their warrant cards."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact DC Tony Mitchell at Swindon CID on 01793 528111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
