What do you think of new plans guide?

A NEW planning guide has been produced for west Wiltshire and council leaders are seeking residents' opinions.

The guide aims to improve the quality of applications for houses, raise awareness of basic policy requirements and provide guidance on the principles of good design.

It also aims to boost quality, sustainable, housing development and improve understanding of design statements.

West Wiltshire District Council has now started a six-week period of public consultation on the design guide, with a view to adopting it as a supplementary planning document. It will then be used in residential planning applications.

Cllr Jeff Osborn, the planning and economic development portfolio holder, said: "Once this has been adopted as a supplementary planning document, it will help us to shape the appearance of future residential development in the district.

"Good quality, well designed homes can help to revitalise our towns and villages.

"This is a final opportunity for people to have their say on this guidance before it is adopted later this year."

The guide documents are available for inspection at libraries, district and town council offices or online at www.westwiltshire.gov.uk
