Goals galore in North Wilts

CHIPPENHAM Wanderers edged a thrilling nine-goal encounter with Swindon Badgers 5-4 in Sunday's North Wilts league clash.

The Badgers started off as the brighter of the two sides and went ahead in the early minutes through a James Tinsley strike, after Chippenham could only partially clear a corner.

The away side were knocked out of their stride by the early setback, but they soon started to find their feet and were on level terms through a corner of their own, which Chris Meaton finely headed home.

Despite both sides pushing forwards, neither could edge ahead before the break and the teams went into half-time with the score at 1-1.

Much like the first half, it was the Badgers who made the early running after the interval and they deservedly retook the lead through a Danny Mastales strike.

However, it was not long before a Mark Dolman effort restored parity for Chippenham.

His equaliser was followed by a Jonny Moriarty strike just minutes later to put Chippenham in front.

Some sloppy defending by Chippenham then handed the home side a way back into the game, as Kieron Randall-Jennings levelled things up at 3-3 and gave the Badgers the scent of all three points.

However, their hope was quickly extinguished when Moriarty went straight down the other end from the kick-off and fired in his second.

The points were secured late on when Dolman finished off a good move with a neat finish to secure his brace and put the away side 5-3 ahead. Swindon kept fighting tand Granite Deuca halved the deficit.
