Chippenham Sunday League

Premier Division

BOX Rovers and Biddestone Social were involved in an 11-goal thriller which saw the lead change hands five times before Biddestone claimed an amazing 6-5 success.

Biddestone's Gary Banks scored on his debut after just two minutes, but Rovers hit back with three in five minutes through Liam Fullham, Jamie Harrison and Tom Smith.

Another three-goal burst in six minutes from Biddestone swung the game the visitors way, Banks completing his hat-trick and John Lock on target. Unbelievably, Rovers hit back and goals from Stuart Tutty and Jason Walsh sent them in at the break 5-4 up.

Gary Banks then restored parity and with time running out and Rovers down to ten men after an injury to Jason Walsh, Danny Jones connected with Jamie Lyons' cross to earn Biddestone a fine win.

After losing in three contests to West Lavington (Sunday) last term, Sherston Town defeated last year's runners up 2-1 this time round. Antony Vizard opened the scoring for Sherston but with two minutes left Simon Drewitt looked to have earned Lavington a share of the spoils only for Alan Webb to crash home a 20 yard free kick in the 90th minute.

A stunning goal from Trowbridge Harriers ace Mark Zvoda gave them a 55th minute lead against Maud Heath Sports who hit back to claim a 1-1 draw through Adie Simpkins who followed up his own penalty.

Westbury Rangers A defeated Corsham Cricket Club 3-0 thanks to stunning strikes from Paul Beavers, Pete Ayton and Jake Little.

Winsley are finding life back in the top flight tough, and a trip to near neighbours Dog and Fox Ashley left the villagers still searching for their first win of the season and the Bradfordians with a perfect start. Steve Roddy and Dan Cottrell, whose header was helped into the net by Neil Kirkpatrick, were on target for the Dog in their 2-1 win while Gary Higdon netted Winsley's consolation.

Corsham Centre were again among the goals, the Centre followed up an opening day 9-1 win with an 8-2 success over a competitive and battling Bradford News to make it 70 games unbeaten.

Craig Gingell's opener for the Centre was quickly followed by goals from Simon Gray and Matthew Ralph. Andy Bennett pulled a goal back for the newsmen before James Lye found the net. Russell Francis' stunning goal again reduced the deficit before Kevin O'Mahoney, and two more from Gray, to complete his hat-trick, took the score to 7-2. Man of the match Ben Moore scored his team's eighth and final goal.

Division One

THE game between Chippenham Police and Holt was effectively over at half time as Holt raced to a 4-0 lead by the break with Pete Andrews, Johnny Andrews, Nick Ross and Jack Holdway scoring.

Holt took the foot off the pedal in the second half and the Police took their one and only chance with Julian Kirby scoring from the spot to make it 4-1.

Horse and Groom came from a goal behind to beat FC Colerne 3-2. John Gilding saw his opener for Colerne erased by Paul Daly's close range effort, but two further goals from Daly put the Horse 3-1 up. Ian Hudd cut the gap for Colerne who couldn't find an equaliser.

Potterne's visit to Christian Malford ended with a 3-1 win for the away team. Jon Schofield headed in Wes Palmer's deep cross before Scott Evans equalised from the spot. But strikes from Jonny Emm and Jamie Bayes made it safe for Potterne.

Division Two

CHIPPENHAM United RAOB threw away a 2-0 half time lead as Parsons Nose hit back to win 3-2.

A Ben Tilley double had put United in command but inspired half time substitutions paved the way for Mark James to cut the deficit and then level the scores ahead of Darren Whiting grabbing the Nose's winner three minutes from time.

Kings Arms (Trowbridge) were without the suspended Scott Askew, but still maintained their fine start to the season after beating The Crown Devizes 4-2.

Kings Arms scored through Nick Gleeson, Pete Spong, Nathan Flower and Dan Shanley, while Lee Saunders and Niall McLean replied.

Pig & Whistle United suffered a second consecutive loss after promotion, a visit from White Horse FC saw the Horse return to Westbury with two points in the bag after a 3-2 victory.

Chris Turk and a goal from debutant Mike Perrett allowed the Horse a two goal cushion which was halved by Aaron Richardson. Chris Sims then got the Horse's two goal advantage back before he put through his own goal to set up a tense finish.

Sutton Benger's Nick Slade, Paul Watson and Mark Tinklin gave them a 3-2 win at Biddestone Arms, who replied through Kevin Woolford and Andy Moules.

Southwick Sports were indebted to Gareth and Andy Colebrook for their 4-0 victory over Steeple Ashton (Sunday), Gareth helped himself to a treble while brother Andy hit his first goal of the season.

With the season just two weeks old under-fire Virgin Mobile became the first side to postpone a match due to a shortage of players. Last weeks high scorers Kingfisher FC were left without a game.

Division Three

TWO of last season's promoted sides clashed at Avebury where AFC Calne entertained Bar OC and ran-out 3-0 winners.

Centre half Craig Fry leaped well to head home at the back post before the break, while second half strikes from Aaron Clegg and hotshot Ryan Kelleher sealed the points.

Bar OC finished the match with eight players after red cards for captain Duncan Biggin and Andrew Webster, while Darren Brown limped off with an ankle injury.

Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club came from a goal down to defeat Blue Circle (Sunday) 2-1, Steve Munday's equaliser for the Supporters Club cancelled out Matt Wheeler's first half goal for the cement boys.

Munday combined with new strike partner Robin Walker to hit his second of the contest and the Town's winner five minutes from time.

Rowde Dynamos and Corsham Park Rangers shared the honours after a 1-1 stalemate. Ali Duncan calmly put Rangers ahead in the 35th minute only for Rowde to strike and level the scores minutes later through Richard Hayter.

Somerford FC picked up their first win of the season, Chris Yeo and Tom Nation's excellent first half strikes earned the villagers a 2-0 victory over Pack Horse Rangers.

Division four

CLASSIC FC became the second side this season to withdraw from the league, their decision a week into the new campaign follows that of All Cannings who resigned a week before the league kicked off.

Like Cannings, Classic who were relegated at the end of last term, put their demise down to a lack of interest from players.

Kings Arms (Market Lavington) were hit for six for a second week running, this time around it was the Wanderers who took full advantage. Carl McNess saw his shot deflected in to set Wanderers on their way, Damion Shepherd met Dylan Turner's free kick with his knee to make it 2-0, Shepherd pounced to tap home number three and he completed his first half hat-trick in the 38th minute.

Chris Burgess capped a great debut with goal number five and James Starr sealed a great personal display when he completed the scoring.

Newcomers to the league and the much-fancied Southgate Inn beat KSM 4-0, Ashton Turner (2), Andy Coombes and Nick Paget on target.

Old Road Tavern hung on to record a 3-2 win over The Crown, who went in front though Dan Bull after a minute.

Gavin Aplin drew them level, and Tom Jones' header made it 2-1. Bull's penalty restored parity before Aplin headed his team back in front.

Pre-season favourites Plough coasted to a 7-1 victory against AFC Melksham, Dave Thomas (3), Paul Gittins, Dave Appleyard, Colin Brady and Mark Reynolds shared the goals while Danny Barber was Melksham's lone marksman.

Eric Hughes Memorial KO Cup

A SPORADIC performance from AFC Springfield saw them fall at the first hurdle in the preliminary round of the presstoprint sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup to a tenacious North Bradley outfit.

Bradley took the lead when Tim Richards' strike was palmed into the net by keeper Davies. Dan Foster slotted home the second, whileSpringfield's Chris Andrews had his powerful shot acrobatically saved by Bradley's keeper Mark Binns.

Scott Fleming did pull one back from the spot, but Neil Maidment fired home Bradley's third ten minutes from time.
