Confidence in workforce falls

THE confidence of employers to keep hiring staff over the next few months is waning.

The poll of more than 2,000 employers by employment group Manpower showed that firms were the least confident about their hiring intentions for four years although firms in the construction industry were the most optimistic.

Mark Cahill, managing director at Manpower said: "There is an air of growing caution as we enter the last quarter of the year.

"The good news is that many employers look set to keep on hiring, albeit at a slower rate, but are taking their time before committing to expanding their workforce."

Three out of four employers questioned said they expected their staff numbers to remain the at the same level over the next three months.
