Nigel behind the mic for religious show on town's new radio station

Nigel Sharp Picture Ref: 13298-47A NEW religious programme has been planned for Swindon's new month-long radio station which went on air last weekend on 106.8FM.

Saints Alive presented by Nigel Sharp aims to target an audience of the over 40s, both churchgoers and non-churchgoers on Swindon Community Radio.

It will be broadcast on Sundays from 3pm to 5pm and will feature artists like Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, and Cliff Richard.

Mr Sharp said: "Most religious programmes are either aimed at anyone who will listen or the converted churchgoer and often at a time when they are at church.

"It will take a period of time to grow, but I would like the non-churchgoer to understand what the church is all about in non-jargon language.

"Also I would like the churchgoer to understand the problems they have in communicating the message simply.

"In other words I would like the churchgoer and non-churchgoer to get to know each other and talk to one another in a non-threatening way."

The news and features in the programme will all be tailored to appeal to the churchgoer as well as the non-churchgoer.

Mr Sharp said: "Targeting the over 40s provides an opportunity for teenagers to come up with new exciting programming for that age range in another slot, and this would be a giant step in religious broadcasting."
