Biting back

AFTER their disappointing national performance the Peatmoor Juniors came bouncing back to win the NFA Junior Regional Championships on Bathampton's AC Hunstrete Lakes.

Tying on points with Devizes they had a superior weight advantage, with their young star Nathan Reeves winning the match and his section with a cracking 49-1-0 and he was backed by other team members.

Jamie Read who won his section and was third individual with 25lb.

Ed Bryant was second in his section with 9-4-0 and Kevin Covey was third in his section with 14-6-0.

n The Westleaze Waters Club match attracted a good entry for their Rose Bowl match which was won by Jeremy Cambridge with 30-10-0.

Weights were with RAF angler Dave (Smuggy) Smith second on 29-6-0 ahead of Bill Ross 25-2-0 and fourth with the best silver fish weight was Roger Giles with 23-6-0.

A section winner was Dick Young 21-7-8 and B section winner was Jason Fearn 22-2-0. Best carp weight was Jeremy Cambridge 30-6-0 and best individual fish weight was a 7-7-0 carp taken by Dick Young.

Pete Saunders won another Wednesday Club match when he won at Purton House Lake with a total weight of 6-12-0 ahead of Terry Marland 5lb and Derrick Hillier 2lb.

n Phil McKay top weighted in the Coleview AC Tench Cup match with 23-4-0 but didn't win the club's Teach Cup. This fell to third placed Pat Kelly who took four tench for 15-9-0.

n Weights were close in the Haydon Street AS Roach Cup match held on their Bristol Avon stretch at Dodford Farm.

Top from peg one was Alan Hambidge 6-10-0, ahead of Paul Nutley 6-8-0, Danny Gould 5-12-0 and John Ford was fourth 5-8-0.

The Peatmoor Bream Cup 14-16 year age group was won by Jason Wood with 14lbs 1oz.

Runner up with 10lbs 15ozs was Nathan Reeves and in third place with 8lbs 10ozs was Tom Brabazon.

The 10-13 year age group was won by Matthew Freeman with 6.5ozs and the intermediate age group was won by Kevin Covey with 1lb 12ozs.

The Peatmoor Aggregate match 14-16 year age group was won by Jason Wood with 14lbs 6.5ozs. Runner up with 11lbs 6.5ozs was Nathan Reeves and in third place with 9lbs 4ozs was Tom Brabazon.

The 10-13 year age group was won by Matthew Freeman with 4lbs 9.5ozs and the intermediate age group was won by Kevin Covey with 2lbs 4ozs.

n Young Swindon angler Danny Gould took the prizes when he won the Chippenham Town Council's Open on the Avon with 14-10-0 of bream.

Ashton Keynes AC Roach Cup at Thamesmead A - 1 John Wagner 3-3-0, 2 Dave Pikett 1-3-0, 3 Hughie White 15ozs.
