Special queuing at Sainsbury's on blockade day

A SWINDON petrol station has come up with a clever way to stop chaos at the pumps.

The Sainsbury's station at Bridgemead, has a special queuing system in place which means drivers who are waiting to fill up their tanks do not obstruct other drivers.

And store manager, Bob Upshall, said despite these measures it is business as usual and there is plenty of petrol for everyone.

"We have definitely been busier over the last few days with people trying to fill up their tanks so I decided to put a precautionary measure in place to ensure drivers queuing for petrol do not obstruct people who want to get into the supermarket or Homebase."

Mr Upshall was worried cars queuing for petrol would bank up onto the mini roundabout, which leads into the main supermarket car park. "We decided to cordon off part of the car park and then make those people queuing snake around it so they were kept off the main route into the car park.

"It's just a way for us to manage the traffic sensibly."

But he said the petrol station is not running out of supplies and urges customers to act as they normally would. "We have enough petrol for everyone and as far as I know we will have," said Mr Upshall.

As we reported in yesterday's Advertiser motorists have been queuing at garages across the town to fill up their tanks and jerry cans.

Refinery blockades are due to happen today and protesters are also planning a motorway go-slow for the M4.
