Residents want their views heard

I WAS present at the recent Wanborough Parish Council meeting when residents from other parishes attended.

Why did they do so?

They wanted their views to be heard.

One lady from Hinton, said that the noise of Christmas parties from Redlands meant that she had called out the Noise Abatement Officer several times.

She was also fed up with microlights from Redlands Airfield flying low over her home.

Others from Nythe and Covingham wanted something done about the drone of the skydiving plane flying over their house.

While the owners of the farm and airfield may claim that they have done nothing in breach of their conditions, several local people have reported suspected breaches to the planning department and borough enforcement officer.

The skydiving permission clearly states that only one plane is to be used, yet several have been reported as flying at the same time.

Planes have also taken off from Lower Upham Airfield and dropped skydivers over Redlands, an activity that was never mentioned in the original application.

On April 7, I witnessed the skydiving plane taking off and flying acrobatically and low around my house and over the roof of a children's nursery.

I considered the pilot's actions so reckless that I reported it. Obviously there are multiple issues and problems relating to Redlands and Swindon Council needs to address them urgently.

An activity may have planning permission but that does not mean that it does not cause a nuisance nor absolve those causing it from responsibility. The council allowed this activity, now they should protect us from it.

Civil law does offer a remedy to sue for damages.
