Merger plan

WILTSHIRE police could be merged with neighbouring forces in a major shake-up designed to combat crime and the threat of terrorism.

Under Home Office proposals, the number of forces nationally is due to be cut by a third and a report due to be released this week is expected to recommend Wiltshire is one of those to go.

A statement issued by Wiltshire Police said: "Once the report is published the Police Authority and the Chief Constable will consider the content."
