WHAT is going on at Frome Town? First they pull out the FA Cup, then manager Andy Black quits and on Wednesday night the players start fighting each other.
While Sven Goran Eriksson's England team were embarassing the nation in Northern Ireland, former Chippenham Town and Warminster midfielder Lee Davidson was disgracing Frome with an extraordinary act of petulence.
Half way through the first half, Davidson exchanged a few angry words with team-mate Richard Lindegaard and then strode towards him before half headbutting him and half pushing him to the floor.
With everyone expecting a red card, referee Guy Beale, a Premier League linesman, just produced a caution leaving brave Melksham baffled.
Melksham boss Kelvin Highmore said: "I could not believe he was not sent off. We must have had them rattled to be fighting among themselves. But he raised his arms and should have walked."
Western League premier division high flyers Frome played all the football but without any real incisiveness as Melksham defended resolutely to earn a valuable point.
Former Melksham player Simeon Allison was the best player on the park, with his electric runs down the right flank, but for all their dominance, visitors' keeper Gareth Evans did not have to make a save.
Davidson had their best attempt on goal with a dipping free kick that struck the bar.
At the other end, Melksham produced the best chances and should have been celebrating all three points after Lee Beavis' free header from yards out went sailing over the bar.
Melksham travel to Swindon Supermarine in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow with Ryan Trowbridge, Leigh Burke, and Adam Gingell all still suspended.
Highmore said: "We came here looking for a point and I am over the moon we have got it. We are struggling with suspensions and tomorrow will be very tough."
