Parent with a grudge pastes bills across town

Wootton Bassett residents and traders have been left scratching their heads after hundreds of ransom-style posters from a mystery person demanding to see their son were plastered all over town.

The A4 size posters were stuck all over the front of Tinkers Lane Surgery, on Tinkers Field, sometime on Saturday morning with the words "I just want to see my son," cut out from newspapers.

Practice manager Sandra Walklett said: "We've got absolutely no idea what it is all about or who has done it but it gave us a terrible surprise when we found it on Monday morning. It took four members of staff about an hour to get rid of them all and I counted more than 40 posters."

Posters were also found stuck to the social services offices at Manor House, next to the Police Station in Lime Kiln, as well as all along the line of shops on Gainsborough Avenue.

The Chinese takeaway and hairdressers were also plastered in posters as was the telephone box.

There have also been reports of posters being put on the windows of the old GWR building on Lime Kiln. It is believed the person responsible may be a father from Cricklade who has a wife living in Wootton Bassett but so far there have been no witnesses to the posters being put up.

WPC Tracey Davies of Wootton Bassett Police said: "The posters aren't harassment because it isn't targeted at a specifically named person and we haven't got any evidence of who has done this.

"I understand that social services will be talking to a man who they've had dealings with who wants access to his son but that is all I know."

Anyone with information about the posters or who saw them being put up is asked to call Wootton Bassett Police Station on (01793) 852213.
