Marine avalanche crushes Vale

SUPERMARINE coach Matt Fry hailed his side as they ran in a century of points against Pewsey Vale in Dorset & Wilts One North.

Fry, who saw his men run in 17 unanswered tries, said: "The team played well and our attacking options were executed well.''

Fourteen of the touchdowns were converted by Dan King. Mark Sheppard and Shaun Higgins grabbed four each, while Ian McMurray and King got two apiece. The other points came from Pat Higgins, Nick Moulden, Paul Prentice, Dave Cox and Gareth Hollis.

Elsewhere, Minety shrugged off last season's relegation to open up with a 24-0 win over Westbury.

The home side scored four tries but lost two key players to injuries.

David Hazell was first to leave the field and it wasn't until the fifth minute of first-half injury time that Minety finally broke the deadlock with a penalty try.

Twenty minutes into the second half, right wing Oli Bown scored a fine solo effort, James Tweedale converting.

A run by Tim Vaughan set up a try for centre Brian Lindsey which Tweedale once more converted.

Minety's final try came when fly-half Ryan Dowling scored another great solo effort.

Westbury had two men binned, but Minety did not escape unscathed, Lindsey being injured by a high tackle.

n Kelvin Linsley's stint at the Cricklade helm started badly with an emphatic 41-0 home defeat by Wootton Bassett 2nd.

Prop Stuart Sly, hooker Dave Scott, No 8 Tim Gallimore, flankers Gary Darragh and Ian Chard went over, as did centre Sam Fulling.

His brother Duncan kicked four conversions and a penalty.
