College boys hand out a lesson

SEVEN tries saw Swindon College off to a flying start in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division on Saturday, Farnham Royal the 41-0 victims.

They made the perfect start after three minutes as winger Darren Johnston latched onto a floated pass from outside centre Luke Wills and broke through the defence.

Scrum-half Mark Lea converted and five minutes later, full-back Neil White completed another well-worked move.

Farnham managed a penalty in reply, but White and Johnston completed their hat-tricks and Wills also crossed to confirm the rout.

n FAIRFORD introduced themselves to Twin Counties rugby in emphatic fashion as they dismissed Swindon College Old Boys 2nd 41-7 in Dorset & Wilts Three North.

The Gloucestershire side transferred in the summer and wasted no time in making their presence felt.

However, they got off to a bad start as a Gareth Bowman kick was charged down to present College with a simple seven-pointer.

The hosts hit back as Dave Swanson opened their account.

Moments later Aidan Messer scored a fine individual effort, again unconverted. A late Gubb try and Bowman conversion saw them turn around 17-7 to the good.

College roared back and it needed Fairford's best defence to keep them at bay in the early moments of the second half.

A rare break then allowed American winger Pat Burris to score his first try for the club and as College tired, an individual try by Bowman and Steve Brown score moved them further ahead.

And Chris Tanner battered through for the final touchdown.
