Goal rush for Dagger, Liden

SHIELD & Dagger and Liden FC are the early pacesetters in the Premier Division of the Swindon & District League.

Both sides triumphed 4-2 on the opening day of the campaign.

The Dagger cut through Ridgeway at home courtesy of goals from Andy Kitchener and Wayne Moulton, with Jamie Ashby chipping in with a brace.

Liden, runners-up in the Advertiser Cup last season, won by the same score at South Marston.

Elsewhere in the top flight, a Jamie Scanlon goal was enough to earn Southbrook a 1-0 win at home to Queensfield.

The only other scheduled game in the Premier between Green Baize and Regent was postponed.

Green Baize Reserves did get the go-ahead in Division One, and delivered a clear message of intent by thumping hosts Spectrum 5-0.

Matt Styler (2), Darren Rudman, Mark Thatcher and Phil Ausden were all on target for the Baize's second string.

Also in freescoring form were Wason & Webb, 6-2 winners at home to Rodbourne.

Craig Jones and Graham Dancer were among the goals.

Walcot were 2-0 winners at home to Lower Stratton with Lee Stevens and Lee Francombe netting.

AFC Abbey Rodbourne saw off Eastville 3-1 courtesy of Kelvin Spencer, Keith Slater and Adam Store.

Trailers' clash with Ramsbury was called off.
