Paedophile Stephen Kelsey has been told he faces going to prisonSERIAL paedophile Stephen Kelsey has been warned to expect jail after admitting further child abuse.
Kesley used his hobby of trainspotting to befriend teenage boys before committing indecent acts on them.
The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to a string of charges of indecency on a boy in the mid to late 1980s when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.
His admission comes just a year after he escaped a jail term for a series of sex attacks on two young brothers around the same time.
Kelsey, of Burnham Court, Rodbourne, pleaded guilty to five counts of indecency with a child between June 28, 1985, and the end of 1988.
He pleaded not guilty to a sixth count of indecent assault on June 29, 1985, which the prosecution said they would not proceed with.
Robin Shellard, defending, said his client was an ill man and had suffered a number of heart attacks and other problems.
He said that the police had known about these matters since 1994 when the complainant first spoke to them about the matters.
But he said that after his client was convicted last year the victim now a man in his 30s decided to make a formal complaint.
"The police knew about this for 11 years," he told the court.
But referring to earlier police questioning, Judge Charles Wade replied: "As did your client. He didn't offer information about it in interview."
Mr Shellard said: "He has always acknowledged there were a number of boys. The problem he faced was the police knew the victim had made a complaint and didn't proceed with it."
He said that Kelsey had made "remarkable progress" on a sex offenders' programme.
Last year, a court heard how former British Rail worker Kelsey befriended a 13-year-old boy on the platform of a London station.
The trainspotter then befriended the boy's family and they trusted him to take the youngster on trips to stations.
The touching of the youngster continued after Kelsey left the capital for Swindon in 1984 and included an incident with the boy's younger brother.
The latest raft of offences is Kelsey's fifth set of convictions for similar offences dating back 38 years.
He was convicted of gross indecency at Weymouth magistrates in 1967 and three years later was sentenced to six months in prison for offences against teenagers he met at railway stations.
In 1976 he was put on probation for two years for a charge of gross indecency.
At last year's hearing Ian Halliday, defending, said Kelsey was diabetic and had suffered multiple strokes since the 1980s. He said his medical problems meant his interest in sexual matters had declined.
Judge John McNaught said he wanted to send Kelsey to jail with an extended period on licence, ensuring he went on a sex offenders' programme. But because the offences were committed before 1998 he didn't have the power to do it.
Kelsey was give a three year community rehabilitation order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the next five years.
Sentencing for these fresh charges was adjourned until October 14.
'This man should be in jail'
LAST August, one of Stephen Kelsey's victims, Rob Lee, 36, spoke of his ordeal.
He was 13 when Kelsey befriended him on a platform in Stratford, East London.
After learning that his abuser had escaped jail last year, Mr Robb, of Harlow in Essex, said: "There is no doubt in my mind that this man should have been given a custodial sentence.
"Victims of child abuse are given life sentences. This kind of thing destroys lives."
