Lyus in line as chairman

CORSHAM TOWN: MALCOLM Lyus will make his decision on the vacant chairman's role at Corsham Town tomorrow night after watching their Toolstation Western League Premier Division match at home to Radstock.

As revealed by the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News last week, Lyus was approached by Corsham manager Colin Bush about the position after previous chief Colin Hudd stepped down due to health reasons.

Lyus, who led Chippenham Town through the most successful period in their history between 1997-2004, has stated he wants the job but said he would only take it on if he could spare the time from his work commitments.

He said: "As I said last week I want to take the position up but I have to talk to a few people about whether the position is viable for me at this time.

"Nobby Bush has said I could take the role up in whatever capacity I wanted but I know myself it would have to be all or nothing. I would have to put 100 per cent into it and that is why I have to consider whether it is possible.

"I desperately want to take them up on the offer and I will be going on Saturday with my wife Tina to have a look at their set up. I will make a decision after that and I hope I will be able to say yes."

Manager Colin Bush is excited about Lyus' potential arrival having worked with him at Chippenham Town but insists there is no pressure on him.

He said: "I have spoken to Malcolm and he is interested in the role. We have assured him he is under no pressure and we will take his answer whenever he is ready to make it.

"He and his wife will be at the Southbank as guests tomorrow and we will talk more about it then. Hopefully we can work something out."

Corsham have been without a match this week due to being out of the FA Cup and Bush admits the gap has been frustrating.

He said: "It's quite strange at this time of the season to have such a gap between games. We want to be playing football and it is disappointing when we have a blank weekend."

Midfielder Gary Blackwood comes back into the squad for tomorrow's visit of Radstock and after two draws out of their first three league games, Bush is calling for his side to be more clinical in front of goal.

He said: "We have been defending brilliantly but I think we need to start realising our potential in other areas of the pitch.

"We need to be more ruthless around the goal and perhaps some players need to be a bit more selfish.

"The team has been playing exceptionally well and should have more than five points out of a possible nine to show for it."
