Author backs the Coate campaign

ANOTHER author has signed the Save Coate petition.

Robert Macfarlane, author of Mountains of the Mind, joins John Fowles by signing the petition to stop the planned development of a university, business park and 1,800 homes near Coate Water.

"A landscape such as Coate Water is invaluable, not only in and of itself, but also for the great good which it brings to the town hose fabric it is a part," he said. "Coate Water must not be lost."

Mr Macfarlane has praised the work of Richard Jefferies, who wrote about the countryside at Coate.
