Get glimpse of ancient church

A 13th CENTURY church in Swindon is to open its doors to the public as part of a national scheme.

Heritage Open Days 2005, which is co-ordinated by the Civic Trust with support from English Heritage, sees the country's finest attractions open their doors for the public to see free of charge.

Taking part this year is Holy Rood Church, in The Lawn, Old Town, which was originally the parish church of Swindon.

Swindon Council has organised for the church to be open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 10.

Nigel Burton, the chairman of the Civic Trust, said: "Heritage Open Day is all about people and places.

"It celebrates community and reflects the importance of the built environment in our lives and to our quality of life.

"It is organised by local people who dedicate their spare time to opening properties and staging activities."
