It's Childs play for in-form College

New College continued their good start to the season with a 2-1 win at Devizes Reserves, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Honours were even in the first 45 minutes but after the break the College broke the deadlock when Mark Chatwin followed up a shot from Tom Caddon to put the Swindon side in the lead.

The home side fought back and Nathan Moffatt levelled. With the points looking likely to be shared, College netted the winner five minutes from time after the home keeper had parried a shot from Caddon and Ryan Childs was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.

Aldbourne, fancied to be among the front runners in the section, were surprisingly beaten 5-1 at home by visitors Melksham Town.

Aldbourne's assistant boss Ian Restell was not a happy man and said: "We were awful, it was a very poor performance, we just didn't seem to get started."

Trailing 2-0 at the break Aldbourne's Gavin Cook conceded a penalty soon after the start of the second half and things got worse as the visitors added two more goals to their tally.

The home side scored a consolation with a strike from sub Carl Taylor.

Down Ampney lost their 100 per cent record at Pewsey losing 3-2.

Ampney took an early lead but two goals from Barry Flippance, one from the spot, and a strike by Gerry Harris gave the home side a 3-1 advantage.

However, 10 minutes from time the visitors pulled a goal back to ensure a hectic finish to the game, the home side hanging on for victory.

Westside travelled to Westbury and were beaten by the only goal of the game scored by Sam Tucker on the half hour.

The home side then thwarted all attempts for an equaliser by the Swindon side who probably deserved a point.

Marlborough Town were beaten 4-0 at home by Corsham, Adam Taylor with a brace and Ross Hall and an own goal adding to their scorline.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, Marlborough had a good chance to pull a goal back but Justin Guinerie missed from the spot.

Malmesbury Vics were on the end of a hiding at AFC Trowbridge Youth, losing 7-1 to the newcomers.

Matt Minus led the way with a hat-trick followed by goals from Jamie Young, Sean Daniels, Lee Wilson and an own goal.

Purton Reserves were beaten 5-0 at home by Shrewton Reserves prompting chairman Gary Norman to say: "Manager Ray Wakley has not been able to field a settled side so far with calls from the senior side and players on holiday but hopefully things will get better."

First half goals from Jason Guy and Greg Lewis gave Warminster a 2-0 success over visitors Bromham.

In Junior Division One, AFC Stratton were beaten 4-2 at home by Wroughton. Steve Stewart and a penalty from Wayne Petrie netted for Stratton and Lee Curtis emerged the Wroughton hero with a hat-trick, Jamie Puttick adding a fourth.

AFC Abbey Rodbourne looked to be heading for victory against Barron Heating following a strike by Paul Parsons. However, Gavin Barron had other ideas and scored twice in the last three minutes to snatch the points.

Blunsdon United had their keeper sent off at Castle Combe but still managed to hold the home side to a 0-0 draw.

Stratton Rovers gained a useful 4-2 win over Blyskawica despite trailing 2-1 at the break.

Lou Cunningham (2), Warren Fuller and Ashley Channing on target for the Rovers and Tom Kopinski and Phil Trueman for the visitors.

Pinehurst OB ran in 11 goals against Marlborough Town Reserves who replied twice and Minety came out on top 7-4 against Lower Stratton.

Goals from Tom Griffin (2), Dan Wright, Byron Sutton and Richard Horner gave Westlecot a 5-3 win over Biddestone.

In Junior Two, CHQ were beaten for the first time losing 2-1 to Wroughton Reserves Alan Stratford for the home side and Serous Mazaheri and Ian Lennard for Wroughton.

A free-kick from Robert Cunningham 10 minutes from time gave AFC Rodbourne a 1-0 win over Aldbourne Reserves.
