Woman denies she was drunk

A WROUGHTON woman has pleaded not guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Amanda Ponting, 34, of Kerrs Way, Wroughton, was arrested at the tented market in Swindon town centre on Friday, August 26, after allegedly abusing a member of the public.

She was held in custody overnight and appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Saturday, where she denied the charge.

Ponting claimed that she was not drunk and had only had one can of beer.

The case was adjourned for a pre-trial review.

She was given bail on the condition that she is not found with any alcohol in public.

Ponting must also report to Swindon central police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 2 and 5pm.

She is to be back at Swindon Magistrates' Court at 9.45am on October 20.
