Man admits theft of meat

A PENHILL man has confessed to stealing £40-worth of meat from the Co-op.

Matthew Symonds, 25, of Charlton Close, pleaded guilty to theft at Swindon Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He was arrested on Tuesday after taking the food from the Stratton St Margaret store.

Symonds, who had been in custody, also admitted failing to surrender to court on July 19 when he was due to be sentenced for four thefts.

Defending Tony Nowogrodski said that Symonds was trying to get his life on track but had taken "two steps forward and one step back".
