Dementia danger

Society could face a growing problem of dementia as the population ages, a study suggests. A quarter of people aged 85 or over suffer from dementia, according to the research.

But living longer and being healthier provides no protection from the disease, the study found.

The Medical Research Council's Cognitive Function and Ageing Study found improved health and mortality were not likely to guard against the risk of developing dementia.
