Wacky show is hot stuff for crowds

Aloha Above, Wanborough Toddlers' Group in their Hawaiian costumes Ref: 98964-18A MAN wearing only shorts covered himself in baby oil, climbed into a giant inflated balloon and burst out dressed as superman.

It sounds extraordinary but it was just another day in wacky Wanborough.

The Wanborough Show drew the crowds on Saturday and the sun beat down throughout the day.

As well as Bruce Airhead's bizarre performance there was a host of other entertainers.

John Basevi, the attractions organiser, said: "It went fantastically.

"We had nice weather and it was the biggest show in recent years.

"We don't know the numbers yet but the takings were up 35 per cent.

"Any profits we make we put back into the community, but the whole point is not to make a profit.

"We're a small country show and try not to be too commercial. It's a fine balancing act."

Fortunately, Bruce Airhead kept his balance during his act.

Mr Basevi said; "He had the most bizarre act I've ever seen but it was side-splittingly funny.

"He also did some very strange dancing. He was hilarious."

Among the other events Adam's Axemen gave a display of forestry and woodland skills.

They are the longest established log axing team in the UK.

There were also displays of falconry, as well as majorettes, puppetry and comedy routines.

Swindon Bluebelles Majorettes strutted their stuff, and a craft fair featured craft producers from around the area.

There were a number of sideshows and attractions for young and old alike.

A free park and ride system was in operation from the village pubs.

Mr Basevi said: "Everyone had a good time and our entertainments were very successful this year.

"I like to think that it's an important day for people in Wanborough."
