No fishing

I WAS amused to read Philip Beaven's letter (fowl pastime, July 22).

He really doesn't know what he is talking about.

He is obviously an anti-angling activist who doesn't realise that angling is the biggest participant sport.

The answer to your question "why are anglers allowed to fish anywhere near the wildfowl?" is that they don't.

They do not fish where the signs say no fishing between the steps and shelter where the wildfowl spend the majority of their time until, of course, irresponsible people come along, walk straight past where the birds gather, stand in between anglers and throw food in.

This then puts the birds at risk of being injured.
