Champions on top on first day

REIGNING champions Corsham Town Reserves began the defence of their Premier Division title with a 4-0 win over Malmesbury Vics.

Adam Taylor netted after two minutes followed by two goals from James Weston and an own goal.

Warminster Town and Calne Town Reserves shared the points in a 1-1 draw, after the home side went in at the break a goal to the good scored by Tom Welch.

After the break Calne had the edge and equalised in the closing stages through Darren Legg.

Premier Division newcomers Down Ampney got off to a great start by beating visitors Shrewton United 4-1.

Arthur Levitt opened the scoring midway through the first half, followed 10 minutes later by a second from Terry Moore who scored direct from a corner.

Ben Dalton added a third with a firm header and Moore netted a fourth. The visitors scored a consolation in the closing stages.

Westside, also promoted from Junior One, held their own in the first 45 minutes but two quick goals at the start of the second half sealed their fate.

New College were on top form at Bromham beating the home side 5-2.

A Gary Thompson free-kick put the home side in front after just five minutes, Jordan King equalising on the half hour. James McLaughlin then regained the lead but just before the break but King was on hand to send the sides in level at the break.

Matty Horsell put the College in the lead for the first time and Bradley Gill added two more to make certain of victory.

Aldbourne got off to a good start with a 3-1 win over Devizes Town Reserves, all the goals coming in the first half. Simon Edwards on target with a brace and Scott Scanlon for the visitors and Liam Hill for Devizes.

Marlborough Town opened their season on a high defeating Purton Reserves 4-0 at the Red House thanks to two goals from Justin Guinerie and one each from Neil Robinson and Brian Banks.

Castle Combe, champions of Junior Two last season, found it tough going against Wroughton - the Swindon side running out 5-0 winners with Lee Curtis and David Webb scoring two apiece and Steve Wilson adding a fifth.

Newly promoted Pinehurst OB were trailing 3-1 at against visitors Minety but an inspired tactical move saw keeper Paul Rothwell move to a striking role to score twice together with goals from Arran Welland (2) and Roger Munday to enable the home side to win 5-3.

Goals from Steve Stuart, Wayne Presley and Gregg Higgs saw AFC Stratton register a 3-2 win over Biddestone and Stratton Rovers gained a 4-3 win over Lower Stratton.
