KELVIN Highmore admitted he is still learning things about his squad after watching them convincingly beaten by local rivals Corsham Town on Tuesday night.
The Melksham Town boss was disappointed with his side's performance at the Southbank but said the match had probably come 10 games too early in his reign.
Highmore was delighted with their opening day win at home to Bristol Manor Farm but admits there is still plenty he does not know about his present squad.
He said: "We were playing against a side who finished runners-up last season and have only made a couple of changes to that side. We, on the other hand, had seven new players from last season.
"The game just came too early for us and to be honest I expected them to be strong. I was disappointed with our first half performance because I thought we were poor.
"At half time I had to remind the lads it was a local derby because we had not turned up till then. I learned some very good things about the players on Saturday's and have learned some of their weaknesses on Tuesday.
"Maybe I will have to look at some different personnel but it was a massive learning curve for us.
"Players like Josh Brigham and Lee Burke have only played two games at this level and they are learning all the time."
HIghmore picked out Corsham Town's Scott Lye as the star performer but also said he doubted whether Colin Bush's men would be able to repeat last season's runners-up finish.
He said: "Corsham should finish in the top six again but I think a top two spot will be beyond them. They will miss Alan Griffin and Bideford and Willand will be above them.
Melksham travel to Torrington tomorrow after being given a bye in the qualifying round of the FA Cup.
