Good Evans - Scott's a target for Brickley

A WEEK to forget has just got worse for Biddestone after Division One rivals Westbury United put in seven days' notice of approach for striker Scott Evans.

Summer signing Evans impressed for Biddestone in Wednesday night's 4-0 defeat at Meadow Lane, tempting boss Paul Brickley to put in a bid.

Evans, who signed from Sunday League football, enjoyed a lively pre-season for Biddestone and the loss of his fire power would be a untimely blow for winless Biddestone. He will be allowed to talk to Westbury late next week.

His departure would follow in the wake of versatile defender Ollie McAninch's decision to uproot to London and would leave boss Gary Skidmore searching frantically for a replacement.

Wednesday night's 4-0 drubbing was Biddestone's second successive defeat and, after a promising pre-season, Skidmore is at a loss to explain why.

He said: "It was another very poor performance from us on Wednesday night all over the pitch and it is so different to how we were playing in pre-season.

"It is a big crowd of players who are letting us down at the moment rather than just one or two and things have to improve. Playing like this we would not beat anyone.

"We played better teams than Westbury in pre-season and beat them so why are we not doing it now? People talk about tactics and formations but they don't win games. It is all down to the players and at the moment they are not performing."

Westbury travel to Weston St John tomorrow for a Toolstation League Division One encounter before playing Shrewton at Chippenham Town's ground on Tuesday night.

Skidmore said: "At the moment we are scratching our heads at why we seem to have gone backwards but we have to keep our pre-season in our heads. We have shown what we can do and we just need to get back to doing that.

"There will be changes on Saturday, there have to be, and hopefully the players will respond to a few hard words."
