LEWIS Porter is determined to fight for the number one goalkeeping shirt at Meadow Lane despite being left out of Westbury's first game of the season.
Last season's regular stopper has lost his place to former Corsham keeper Nick Evans after falling out of favour due to a bust up with manager Paul Brickley in pre-season.
But Porter is ready for the battle to regain his number one status, as long as Brickley is prepared to forget about their problems.
Porter said: "I played the first half in a friendly in the summer and after being taken off I went to talk to some friends. At the end of the game I didn't go into the changing room and was dropped for that.
"Since then I have not been involved at all, not even in the reserves, although the manager has told me I will be allowed back into the reserves soon.
"I hate not playing but as long as I have a chance of getting back into the first team I will be happy to fight for my place by playing reserve team football."
Second half goals from Wayne Wheeler and Ashley Groves gave Westbury a 2-0 lead in Saturday's Division One opener and despite Simon Dark pulling one back, Westbury held on to secure a winning start.
Brickley said: "We did really well. We had a few young players but they did not look out of their depth which is a credit to them as Clyst is a hard place to go to.
"I would have taken a draw before the match but to get the three points is an excellent bonus. Sixteen-year-old David Thompson played well on his debut.
"We should really have been out of sight by half time but everyone stuck to the task and we got our reward in the second half after two good goals."
