Wiltshire are well beaten

WILTSHIRE crashed to a 187-run defeat in their final Minor Counties Championship game of the season.

Set a formidable 455 runs to win and record a second successive victory the hosts never looked likely to reach the target.

They were bowled out for the second time in the match when only totalling 267.

Resuming at Corsham on 47-1 on the third and final day with Damian Shirazi 20 not out and Michael Coles 13no Wiltshire made the worst possible start.

The prolific Shirazi quickly departed only adding two runs to his overnight score.

However, Coles took the fight to Devon scoring 109 off 107 runs but once he went the visitors soon wrapped up victory.

The only other worthwhile Wiltshire contributions came from James Hayward (32) and Baqar Rizvi (27).

Arwyn Jones was Devon's best bowler returning figures of 5-61 while Ian Bishop (2-83) and Andy Procter (2-110) both bagged a brace.

Devon just failed to get maximum points while Wiltshire earned only five.

RESULT: Devon 323 & 321-8dec; Wilts 190 & 267.

Devon won by 187 runs.

Points: Devon 23, Wilts 5.
