Cyclist recovering after hit and run accident

A CYCLIST was left with multiple injuries after a collision with a 4x4 in a hit and run accident.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the driver of the green Range Rover did not stop following the crash on Friday.

The man on the bike was left with cuts and bruises to his arms and shoulder and a possible broken rib.

The driver stopped to look back after the accident, but after seeing the cyclist stand up, he drove away.

PC David Williams, from Swindon traffic police, said: "It could have been a lot worse. He went over the handlebars of the bike.

"We have got one independent witness who saw it all but we are looking for any more witnesses.

"The Range Rover approached the roundabout and the cyclist was on his near side.

"The Range Rover didn't use any indicators so the cyclist thought he was going straight on and went to pass him on the near side.

"But the Range Rover turned left apparently without any indication.

"The driver knows that something has happened at that roundabout because he stopped at the slip road before the A419 and looked back, saw the cyclist picking himself up and drove off.

"The cyclist carried on to work but as he began to feel the aches and pains he was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.

"He is now recovering at home."

The accident happened at 7.45am on Friday at The Rat Trap roundabout on Highworth Road.

The Range Rover drove off north along the A419.

Anyone with any information should call PC David Williams at Swindon police on 01793 528111.
