Water feature was danger

IN response to Andrew Darley's assumption that we closed the water feature to save maintenance, the real reason for its closure was the concern of our health and safety advisers.

They felt that there was a reasonably high risk of small children falling into the water and asked us to install safety measures which would prevent such an occurrence.

Unfortunately, we could not find a satisfactory way of doing this without ruining the aesthetic appeal of the feature and so it was felt that we should cover it over and find another use for it.

Occasionally, we now use the dais that has been created for mounting special events.

At the same time as we closed the water feature we invested more than £70,000 in a new play area for children nearby.

This is safe and popular with kids and parents alike.
