Club profits as teams enjoy first tournament

WILTSHIRE League club Dauntsey Gentleman raised £200 from their inaugural six-a-side tournament on Sunday.

In total, seven teams took part in the five-overs-a-side competition, with the Hortons team emerging victorious from the final against the Volunteer Inn.

Co-organiser Phil Biggs' Phil's Phillies team of Heather McCune, Hannah Sherratt, Catie Brown, Alex Whalley and Amy Brown finished third.

The cash raised will go to help the club fund renovations to their pavilion, and Biggs said: "Unfortunately, we have a badger sett running under our pavilion which is causing problems. Both ends are collapsing.

"We also want to install an outside net.''

He added: "We want to make this an annual event.

"A few clubs hold six-a-side events and hopefully ours will grow next time.''

K & EJ Crump and jewellers Deacons provided food and trophies respectively for the day.

Meanwhile, Dauntsey are celebrating promotion from Division Seven of the Crusader Wiltshire League, with still several games remaining.
