Kids get a different angle on summer fun

Hayleigh Ward at the Science Holiday ClubTHE summer holidays provided an out of this world week for Swindon children at a special holiday camp.

The Science Museum in Wroughton held a space-themed holiday camp for children aged between eight and 12 this week.

"We've had rockets being launched, planes being flown and aliens being made," said Simon Gould, one of the project managers. "It's been enormous fun and a hit with the kids. The aim of the camp is to entertain the children but as well as playing games.

"We wanted the activities to be really hands on and something a bit different."

The children have been learning about environments on other planets and what lifeforms they may contain. It coincided with the Space Shuttle Discovery's mission in space this month. The space week is one of three more themed weeks to come before the end of August. Next week sees a farming and environmental series of events.

The holiday club is fully booked but the Science Museum is open to the public daily from 10am until 4pm.
