People's greed will destroy this place

ARTHUR Tayler fell in love with Coate Water when he came to live in Berkshire as a boy.

And he has painted an idyllic scene of the beauty spot.

He moved from West Bromwich to Lambourn and would think nothing of walking to Coate from the Berkshire village where he worked as a stable lad.

Arthur, 67, who has lived in Walcot for 30 years, said: "Coate is such a lovely place but because of people's greed there won't be anything left.

"It's so beautiful, with all its birds, deer and other animals."

"It's something left of the countryside. It was my second home. I used to walk through it as a boy from Lambourn.

"It's a romantic place. When the sun rises over Ridgeway on a summer morning, that is the beauty that is Mother Nature at her best and kindest."

Since retiring as a head lad Arthur has been working as an artist.

Among his famous clients is racehorse trainer Jenny Pitman.
