Mongolia here we come!

A FATHER and son from Stratton St Margaret begin their 8,500-mile trip to Mongolia today in a Reliant Robin.

Mark Barker, 30, and his dad, John, 58, will take it in turns to do the driving.

Last night they journeyed to London the start of the trip to make final preparations.

"We're reasonably confident we will do it," said Mark. The pair both of Ermin Street have agreed to help organise the event, called the Mongol Rally.

"The rally starts in Hyde Park at 1pm and we should fly back from Moscow airport on August 25."

The 18-year-old motor emblazoned with the Swindon Advertiser logo will have to stand up to harsh conditions.

Mark attempted the rally last August but had to abandon the car also a Reliant Robin when the exhaust fell off.

"We hope that won't happen this time. We've put in a lot of preparation time."
