Corsham 323-7, Glastonbury 328-5

PREMIER ONE: CORSHAM chased a mammoth total until the last ball of the innings as they recorded a losing draw against a Glastonbury team containing three Somerset regulars.

Corsham hit 323 off their 55 overs in response to Glastonbury's 328.

Glastonbury made all but 55 of their runs from their Somerset players as Wesley Durston (157 off 141 balls), James Hildreth (33) and Gareth Andrew (83 off 64 balls) almost beat Corsham by themselves.

Captain Neil Shardlow made no excuses, however, after a sterling performance from his side.

"It was a big game for us and considering they had three players who played for Somerset in their Twenty20 Cup match versus Glamorgan on Monday it was a good performance from our team," he said.

"The rules say that a team is only allowed one first class county player but their argument is that two of theirs came through their ranks.

"To be fair to them if I had several players playing for Gloucestershire that had come through our ranks I would want them to turn up for Corsham.

"It just makes them a stronger side than most teams but we have competed well with them.

"We also showed that we can chase scores down. It was a big score and we may not have done it but we took it down to the last ball."

Corsham set about chasing Glastonbury's total in quick fashion with Australian import Stephen Nicholls (20) and Peter Dennett (58) in fine form.

After they had been removed Richard Foley (27) soon Ollie Smith (43) put on an 83-run partnership before they were both run out chasing Glastonbury's total.

Toby Sharpe hit 37 runs and Shardlow made 33 before he was too run out.

Corsham now visit struggling Cheltenham this weekend looking for a first away victory against their hosts.

The side are expected to welcome back big-hitting Steve Perrin, who has returned from his honeymoon.
