The message is chat safely

Wiltshire Police have marked Child Safety Week with the launch of the second phase of a chat room safety campaign.

The Who's Web Wise campaign was successfully launched last year. As part of the next phase, it has now issued chat room safety packs to secondary schools in Wiltshire and Swindon.

These will promote a six-point plan on chat room use, and will contain materials such as lesson plans, posters and a video, allowing teachers to make pupils aware of the importance of web safety.

Superintendent Kevin Maidment, of Wiltshire Constabulary's community safety department, said: "The internet can be fun and educational, but it can also allow young people to communicate with strangers who may project a false image of themselves."
