Police step up hunt for youths

POLICE have released pictures of a man they want to talk to following a sickening attack on an 81-year-old woman in Salisbury.

The image, captured on CCTV, shows the youth walking along Fisherton Street towards the station and officers investigating the case are keen to speak to anyone who recognises him.

The attack happened on Friday, June 17, when the pensioner was hit in the face and had a fizzy drink poured over her head.

Police say the cowardly assault took place about 12.20pm - not later in the afternoon, as previously thought.

The elderly victim, who was visiting from Kent, said the incident was made more distressing when young people nearby laughed and jeered at her, before someone eventually stopped to help.

CCTV pictures show one youth wearing a striped top and possibly glasses, and carrying a blue bag.

In his hand was a fizzy drink carton similar to those served in fast food restaurants.

He was with another youth wearing a dark top and carrying a Nike bag with straps over both his shoulders.

Both wore baseball caps.

Because they were heading towards the station, officers said they were keeping an open mind about whether the youths were local or visiting from out of town.

The attack left the pensioner badly shaken and suffering bruising and headaches.

She says she was hurt and humiliated by the experience.

Salisbury MP Robert Key spoke of his horror after hearing about the incident.

"Some young people don't know the difference between right and wrong," he said.

"There is a lack of respect, and I am disgusted that people can act in this way."

Police said there was traffic and a bus passing at the time of the attack and they are keen to speak to anyone who can help with their inquiries.
