Girls turn latest toy craze into a fundraiser

Bethan Brown with sisters Rhiannon, Bronwen and Cerys Picture Ref: 78077-17A 15-YEAR-OLD from Swindon is doing her bit to make the world a fairer place.

Bethan Brown, of Moredon, has been raising money for the Make Poverty History campaign by making scoubidou key rings and pens, and selling them to family and friends.

Scoubidou is the latest kids' craze. The plastic threads can be tied and bent into weird and wonderful shapes.

Bethan is aiming to finish making the objects in time for a talent show at her sister Rhiannon's school, Holy Rood Junior School on Saturday July 9, when she hopes to hand over a sizeable cheque.

Already she has raised £30.

Bethan's mum Cheryl said: "My house looks like a bomb site. There are bits of plastic all over the place."

Bethan, who goes to St Joseph's Catholic School, said: "My sister has been raising money for her school's charity, so I thought I could make money at my school by doing something I am already interested in.

"Make Poverty History is a really good idea, and it's great that lots of people are getting involved.

"We really need to help poor countries.
