Village school hits £2,500 jackpot after successful fete

PIPILS and parents wore Disney costumes at the weekend to help raise funds for a village school.

More than £2,500 was raised at Winsley Church of England Primary School fete on Saturday, which will be used to buy staging for the annual show next month.

Chairman of the fete committee Alison Drake said: "It was a fantastic day and we raised in the region of £2,500, which was £1,000 up on last year, which is great.

"The weather was very hot and it was a superb turnout of people."

The day was packed with fun-filled activities ranging from bouncy castles and judo displays to water-bomb throwing, while parents could cool off in the Pimms tent.

Teacher Gordon Cox left himself at the mercy of his pupils when he sat in the stocks and helped to raise more than £70.

Josh Adcock, a year six pupil, and Georgia Howe, from the reception class, received top marks when they won the Disney-themed fancy dress competition.

Headteacher Kate Palmer said: "The success of this fete means the money goes a long way to purchasing new staging for the school.

"Everyone has worked so hard to make it such a great success."

Mrs Drake said: "Thank you to everyone who took part and came along and supported the fete to make it the success it was.

"We are now able to order the new staging which we hope will be here in time for the school play in July."
