INSTEAD of doing schoolwork last week, pupils of Durrington Junior School gave spectacular performances of Tales of the Arabian Nights.
Everything about the show was full of energy and colour, especially the children and their costumes.
The show began with two children, Sammy and Chris looking for a birthday present for their granddad. They came across an Aladdin's Cave of old stuff and an old woman, played by Faye Robertson, who tells them tales of Scheherazade, a young story-teller who saves herself from being murdered by her husband the Sultan, played by Luke Sheppard, by telling him stories every night.
The stories Scheherazade tells, The Tale of Ali Baba and The Prince and the Stone King, were acted out by the children.
During the performance, the lively chorus sang many songs and was accompanied by four musicians playing Arabian music.
In some parts of the performance, the music was enthusiastically danced to by a group of budding Arabian dancers.
The show was thoroughly enjoyed by children, parents and teachers who responded with enthusiastic applause.
