Students set off to help Africans

WHILE some teenagers will be relaxing during the summer holidays, a group of pupils at Devizes School will be helping needy people in Kenya. The group of ten A level students, all aged 17, have raised around £3,000 each to take part in the expedition.

They are doing the trip with a company called Camps International who gave a presentation on their work at Devizes School.

The students will be based at a village 50 kilometres south of Mombasa.

They will be working at the local primary school and projects include refurbishing classrooms.

They will also have the opportunity to climb a mountain and work in an elephant sanctuary.

One of the students Katie Izzard said: "It will be tough but we all felt it would be a trip of a lifetime and would benefit others."

The students, who leave on July 24 and will be away for a month, have organised a raffle to raise money to buy items for the school children.

Prizes have been donated by local companies and include a large giraffe, teddy bear and swimming vouchers.

To obtain a raffle ticket, contact Devizes School on (01380) 724886.
