Marcia NortheastTHE deputy headteacher at Ramsbury Primary School has been shortlisted for the title of music teacher of the year at a primary school.
Marcia Northeast, who has taught at the village primary for nearly ten years, is on a shortlist of four teachers chosen from many hundreds of nominations received by the radio station Classic FM.
Headteacher Richard Colley said he was delighted to hear of the accolade. He said: "You don't get shortlisted for a national award unless you are very, very good and Marcia has been doing exceptional work for the school.
"We are all crossing our fingers that Marcia will win the title."
Classic FM runs the competition to find the most inspiring, creative and encouraging teachers in the UK. Entrants are nominated and seconded by teachers and parents, usually supported by videos and DVDs of children participating at the school.
Miss Northeast takes the year two class as well as teaching music to pupils throughout the school.
A statement from Classic FM said: "The standard of music is superb at Ramsbury, with a choir, orchestra, wind ensemble, brass band, and three recorder groups to its credit.
"The school has regular summer and Christmas concerts, and is also involved with charity, village and church events.
"All these events are only possible due to the enormous commitment, talent and effort of Miss Northeast. All students are encouraged to take part in music making, and children with an aptitude are supported and encouraged to practice their instruments, and also to perform."
