Cash goes to police

WILTSHIRE police say they will reinvest the £73,550 they have seized from criminals into crime fighting.

As reported in the Adver last week, the money is the force's share of £13 million of ill-gotten gains seized from criminals across the country under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Matt Bennion-Pedly, director of finance at Wiltshire police, said: "The money is being reinvested in our activities to deprive criminals of the proceeds of their crimes.

"The money we have received is directly related to the amount of cash and property we have helped to seize from criminals through the courts under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

"Since ensuring that crime doesn't pay is the key ingredient to dissuading people from committing crime in the first place, this is an area we and the Asset Recovery Agency are keen to expand."
