Website scoops second accolade

This is Swindon Town F.CTHIS is Wiltshire was named Website of the Year at the EDF Energy South West Media Awards.

It's the second award of 2005 for the Newsquest Wiltshire website, which also triumphed in the Newspaper Awards earlier this year.

Olympic sprint gold medallist Jason Gardener helped present the prizes at the awards on Thursday at Bristol's British Empire and Commonwealth Museum.

The judges said the site was a clear winner and praised its "content, topicality, ease-of-use and interactivity".

They added: "It gave the best local coverage with easy access to 17 towns in the area.

"There is a very good Swindon Town FC section and many other excellent features, including Weird Wiltshire.

"Highlights also include a community network, virtual cards and find-a-friend pages."

The awards were open to newspapers and broadcasters in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The judges were weekly newspaper boss Tim Robinson, former editor and journalism lecturer Gerry Kreibich, photographer Doug Marke, Sentinel editor Sean Dooley, EDF Energy head of media relations Andrew Brown and Kate Squire, managing editor at BBC Radio Leicester.
