Westinghouse batsman Paul Bailey helps his side to a total of 150 against Box, who won by eight wickets 16400/10 NSCRUSADER WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: LEADERS Purton were involved in a nail biting finish at Great Bedwyn on Saturday before losing by a single wicket.
Purton had scored 175 all out, then Chris Blundy (55) and Neil Maycock (47) helped Bedwyn to victory with 11 balls remaining a result which leaves the sides in joint third place.
This defeat enabled Lechlade to take over the top spot following their comprehensive defeat of struggling Collingbourne.
Collingbourne batted first and with Ian Kie (57 no) in form they reached 176-6. Roger Pettifer (62 no) and Paul Godding (73 no) made light of the task however as Lechlade sped to a nine-wicket victory in just 26 overs.
Wootton Bassett move into second place as they won by five wickets at Spye Park. Spye scored 187-6, thanks mainly to a fine 94 from Phil Allsop. Joe Lukins (50) and Ray Patel (76) then set Bassett on their way to victory with four overs remaining.
Box came back from last week's defeat to gain an eight-wicket home victory over Westinghouse. Stuart Wakely (39) top-scored in a Westinghouse total of 150 all out, Neil Pettit with a miserly spell of 2-11 in eight overs. Gerald Hayward (84) and Tony Trotman (47 no) then steered Box to victory with 11 overs to spsre.
Bath Civil Service had Rob Reid (48) and John Down (43) to thank as they scored 236 all out against Calne, who were then dismissed for 167.
Division 2
THE meeting of the top two at Swindon Civil Service saw leaders Potterne strengthen their lead.
Civil Service scored 181-8 with Shaun Smith (55) and Mark Hayward (57) top scoring Graham Gaiger 3-28 in seven overs. Graham (65 no) and Steve Gaiger (69) then helped Potterne to an eight-wicket victory with six overs to spare.
Cooper-Avon Tyres raced to 283-5 at home to Sutton Veny with David Light (100) and Simon Bailey (91) the pick. Sutton Veny were then bowled out for 140 despite the efforts of Steve Nash (43) and Chris Brown (30).
Urchfont still seek their first win as they went down by four wickets at Blunsdon. Andrew Slater (39) top scored in their 130 all out as Chris Hambling did the damage with 5-34. Darren Fisher (64 no) then guided Blunsdon home with ten overs to spare.
Nationwide House entertained Seagry and scored 195-7 with Nick Harris (45), Kevin Flay (41) and Mark Flay (52) top scoring. For Seagry, Paul Lewis had 3-28 in five overs and Mike Lancaster 1-35 in 12. Despite 77 from Alex Fereday and Mick Purton' sunbeaten 61, Seagry finished agonisingly close to victory with 194-5 to lose by one run. Mark Morris taking 2-61 in 12 overs.
Runs flowed at Buscot Park where visitors Avebury made 261-8 thanks to Henry Fry (88) and Rob Gater (38). Dave Steel took 4-48 in 11 overs. Buscot then made a spirited reply but fell just short of their target, all out for 249. Dan Turner (52), Manny Fernandez (50) and Garry Thompson (34) played well, while Dominic Fry took 3-50 in 12 overs.
Division 3
SWINDON 3rd XI still head the division but following their first defeat of the season have had their lead reduced.
Visiting Corsham, they saw their hosts score 150-9 thanks to Gavin Salter (34) and Pete Greenwood (26). Colin Campbell with 2-10 in five overs the pick of the Swindon bowlers. In their reply Swindon were bowled out for 113 Nick Parkinson (33) top scoring, while Simon Acornley did the damage with 6-32 in 10.2 overs, supported by 2-27 in 12 by Chris Bush.
The meeting of second, Wroughton, against third, Wanborough, resulted in a five-wicket win for the visitors Wroughton.
Wanborough struggled for runs and were bowled out for 77 in 40 overs David Haydon top scoring (16) as John Woodcock took 4-26 in 11 overs and Michael Evans 3-11.
Thanks to Roger Player (23) and John Granger (18 no), Wroughton's win finally arrived with 12 overs remaining. Nick Stacey 2-16 in nine overs and David Cox 2-23 in 10.1 ensuring they had to battle for the runs.
Cherhill travelled to Burbage & ER hoping to build on last week's win. Batting first, Burbage Scored 164 all out with Roger Barber (43) and Pete Amor (34) in form, while Mike Butt took 4-32. Cherhill were then bowled out for 118, Ben Webber (30 no) the pick, with the damage being done by Barber who took 8-18 in 8.4 overs.
The meeting of the bottom two at Beanacre went in the home side's favour as they defeated Wilcot by 46 runs. Thanks to Tom MacMullen (63) and Tim Rutty (30 no) Beanacre made 154-6 as Simon Unit took 3-18.
Tom then had 4-44 in 12 overs and Andy Footner 3-21 in 11 as they bowled Wilcot out for 108. As they were the only side in the bottom four to win it has now meant they are covered by just 11 points.
Moredon Royal Oak go third as they defeated hosts Lambourn by four wickets. Lambourn made 168 all out thanks to Paul Annetts (51) and Garry Hawkins (34). For Moredon, Paul Martin took 4-31 in 12 overs and Mike Williams 5-47 in 9.5.
Roger Martin (55) and Mike Fargo (47) helped Moredon score the runs with three overs to spare, despite David Hawkins taking 4-51 in nine.
Division 4
WITH Litten Tree not playing, Bradford Town took the chance to go top of the division as they recovered from last week to inflict a first defeat upon Heytesbury.
Bradford scored 195-9, Justin Wagstaff with 3-25 in 12 overs, and then bowled Heytesbury out for 85 Sam Edwards 4-23 and Dave Smart 3-23. Keevil followed up last week's success with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Highworth.
Tom Batchelor (57) top scored in Highworth's 163-9, while Ben Gunstane took 3-18. Kelvin Lockwood (81 no) and Andrew Hallett (53) saw Keevil home with four overs to spare.
The mid table clash at Purton saw the home side's 2nd XI lose out to their counterparts from Nationwide House.
Mat Pryor (73 no) and Adam Rumbold (42) helped Nationwide to 183-5. Allen Lewis 5-24 in 12 overs then undid the Purton batting, and despite the efforts of Dave Allen (45) and Sam Collier (39) Purton were bowled out for 159.
Coates continue to struggle. They reduced visiting Bathford to 45-3 but then saw them recover to 279-3 Andrew Murray (59 no) and Mark Robbins 3-33 in 12 overs shining. Coates then made 191-7 thanks to Chris Lucas (55) and Colin Harrison (31), with Murray taking 2-30 and Steve Ball 2-37 in 12 overs.
Division 5
PRIDE of place must go to Andy Foster and Swindon United Churches.
Against winless Mildenhall, Churches posted their highest ever League total of 340-4 Foster joining the elite '200 club' with an innings of 204 scored from 139 balls.
He was given valuable support by Duncan Mead (49) and Richard Tonge (39 no). In reply, Mildenhall scored 193-7 thanks to Steve Cook (61) and Neil Osland (43) while Duncan Mead took a hat-trick and finished with 3-28.
Chippenham 3rd XI kept the pressure on Wootton Basstt 2nd XI at the top of the table with an eight-wicket victory at Nettleton. The home side were bowled out for 119, Phil Martin (30) top scoring. Rob Harrison (58) and Aaron Merryweather (28 no) then saw Chippenham home.
Warminster 3rd XI are still looking for a first win after being bowled out for 87 at Devizes 3rd's. Ashley Mallett hit an unbeaten 47 as the damage was done by Ben Giles (4-27 in 10), Paul Reece (3-23 in 6) and Andy Lanagan (2-21 in 10). Paul Stevens (31 no) and Steve Drewett (33) then helped Devizes to an easy nine-wicket win in just 18.5 overs.
Beehive Bradford lost ground at Westinghouse 2nd XI. Beehive scored 232-6 thanks to Micky Spong (48), Mike Reeves (69) and Mike Helmsley (58). Paul Burtenshaw (3-42 in 11 the pick of the bowlers. Stephen Hawker (103 no), Paul Gilbert (47) and Paul Burtenshaw (42 no) then saw Westinghouse to a four-wicket victory.
Division 6
A HIGH scoring match at Lacock saw the home side consolidate their lead with a five wicket victory over lowly Cooper Avon Tyres 2nd.
The visitors scored a more than useful 244-8 with Bhupi (74) and Cliff Thompsett taking 3-55 in 8 overs. After the loss of an early wicket, Barry Harding (71) and Phil Stean (71) shared a stand of over 100 and set Lacock on their way; with Roger Lines chipping in with 45 Lacock won with thirteen balls to spare.
Burbage & ER 2nd slipped up and dropped to fourth spot, losing a close match by one wicket at Calne 2nd.XI. Burbage made 209-7 Paul Lavis (87 no), Darren Holcombe 3-37. Darren 69, Dave Matthews (47 no) and Richard Annet 46 then saw calne home with eight overs to spare.
Trowbridge 'A' take over second spot after they narrowly won by one wicket at home to Goatacre 3rd. Alan Gregg (30) and Ed Jenkinson (35) helped Goatacre to 126 all out as Pete Wilson 3-29, Alan Booth 3-20 and Dave Chalk 2-10 in 12 overs, shared the wickets. Trowbridge struggled for runs as Ed took 5-49, but with Steve Neate 39 and Dave Shanly 33 they got home with six overs remaining.
Bradford Town 2nd also had a narrow win, by five runs at home to All Cannings. Bradford, thanks to Nick Gerrish (60) and Mark Mullis (27) scored 162 all out as Richard Holman took 2-31 in 10 overs and John Wood 2-40 in 12. Despite 41 from Richard and Graham Perrett (42 no) All Cannings closed on 157-8. Dan Nicholls taking 3-39 in 12 overs.
Westbury 3rd entertained Box 2nd and scored 199-6 to which Box replied with 202-6, winning in their fortieth over.
Division 7
BIDDESTONE 3rd XI take over as league leaders as they disposed of previous lpace-setters Collingbourne 2nd XI in no uncertain manner.
Biddestone made 187-6 thanks to Chris Smith (39 no) and Mike Crystal (28). Smith then took 3-19 in nine overs and Craig Pepper 3-5 in three as Collingbourne collapsed to 55 all out.
Chippenham 4th XI lost ground, losing by 48 runs to visiting Corsham 4th XI. Corsham scored 139-8 after a good innings from John Gale (43) and Tony Shardlow (21). Majid Qureshi had a very economical spell of 12 overs for just six runs. Chippenham were then bowled out for 91.
Taff Davis (19) top scored as Tony Rogers took 4-13 in 11 overs and Martin Hick 3-43 in 12.
Beanacre 2nd XI visited Marshfield 3rd XI and made 147 all out with Chris Bradley (57 no), while 13-year-old Louis Mackney took 3-1 in four overs. John Clegg (35 no) then guided Marshfield home with five wickets in hand.
Division 8
WITH Bathford 2nd XI not playing, Swindon 4th XI took over the divisional leadership following their 48-run home success against Biddestone 4th XI.
Swindon made 179-5 thanks to Wayne Steptoe (71).
Simon Dill then took 5-13 in 12 overs to restrict Biddestone to 121-9, Paul Taylor with a patient 46 not out.
Potterne 2nd XI raced to 301-5 at home to Trowbridge B thanks to Ed Fruen (79), Brendan Baker (56), James Down (54) and Ally Bridewell (44 no).
Down then took 5-20 in ten overs as Trowbridge collapsed to 87 all out.
North Bradley stay in contention following their 99-run home win against United Churches 2nd XI. John Taylor (51) and Sean Brown (31) helped Bradley to 149-9, while Led Lang took 3-22 in 12 overs and Dave Thomas a miserly 0-9 in his 12. Churches, however, then collaped to 50 all out as Lee Trainer (6-24 in 10) and Tom Wallace (4-25 in 9) bowled unchanged.
Warminster 4th have yet to win, being well beaten at home by Spye Park 2nd .
Spye scored 238-4 thanks to 14-year-old Tom Young's unbeaten 122.
Paul Hughes then took 6-30 in 10.2 overs as Warminster were dismissed for 108, Charlie Duckett (41) top scoring.
Highworth 2nd entertained lowly Blunsdon 2nd and made 212-6 with Sean Close (98) and Andy Furkins (31 no) finding their range.
Mick Waller with 2-31 in 12 overs was the pick of the Blunsdon bowlers.
Blunsdon were then bowled out for 100, Chris Aubrey hitting 30, as Close (6-25 in 11) and Nick Batchelor (2-34 in 9) hit top form.
