Vandals in a second attack on playhouse

Supervisor Emma Flack has been left speechless after vandals have once again targeted the children's playhouse at Longleaze Pre-School.

In the latest attack the inside of the 1.5 metres square plastic playhouse has been spray painted with silver lines.

Mrs Flack said: "It's just so frustrating. It's still useable but it's the fact that they keep coming over and doing things like this.

"We're constantly finding cigarette butts and beer cans and that's not particularly nice in a children's play area."

The incident happened between 4pm June 7 and 8.15am on June 8.

The playhouse has only recently been replaced after vandals demolished its predecessor shortly before Christmas last year.

Last summer the doors and windows were ripped off one of the playhouses and a trampoline ended up on the roof of the school. Before Christmas another playhouse was completely destroyed.

"Thankfully a friend of the school donated another playhouse, which can cost up to about £300, but we can't keep on relying on the generosity of other people," said Mrs Flack.

She said slight damage to the six foot perimeter fence near the back of the school suggested people had been climbing over it, and she was sure people had seen those responsible. A total of 67 children attend the pre-school which is on the grounds on Longleaze Primary School.

Town mayor Chris Wannell said: "It's just mindless vandalism. I don't know what possesses people to do it.

"The people down there put a lot of hard work into that little pre-school and it gives a lot of our youngsters in the town a good start in life. Just what is the point of it?"

Sgt Andy Fortune of Wootton Bassett Police Station said: "It's a facility for small children and it's absolutely disgusting that these people just go and wreck it with no thought for anyone else. There is an estate nearby and we're sure someone must have seen something."
