King and Williams see off Crudwell

REIGNING Cirencester and District Cricket Association Division One champions Avening & Cherington kept up their position at the top of the table with a comfortable 41-run victory over Crudwell.

Jay Richings scored an unbeaten half-century for Avening and two Crudwell bowlers (A King and Gareth Williams) turned in good performances taking four wickets each.

Second and third placed teams switched round this week as consistent batting from Great Rissington out-scored a depleted Adlestrop side, who were without their two opening bowlers.

Father and son Nick and Sam Keen were the mainstay of the Adlestrop batting, scoring 35 and 40 respectively in a total of 157-7.

Four of Great Rissington's top order batsmen scored over 20 runs as they reached their target with six overs to spare.

Performance of the week has to go to Chedworth's Ben Hunt, who scored 75 runs and took 5-24, as Chedworth cruised to a 152-run triumph over bottom placed Charlton.

Chedworth were struggling at 85-6 off 20 overs, when Hunt and Andy Jerome put on 129 for the next wicket.

Hunt then opened the bowling and made sure Charlton were never in the game, seeing them off for just 67.

Oakridge pulled themselves out of the bottom reaches of the table with a 60-run win over Williamstrip.

Stuart Ridge top-scored for Oakridge with 44 out of a total of 155-4. Richard Minchin (5-25) was the star of the bowlers.

This week's third five-wicket haul came from Northleach's Richard Blundell (5-44), helping to restrict Windrush to 133.

Despite also scoring 23 runs, Blundell ended up on the losing side as Northleach were bowled out 23 runs short of their target.
